Sonam and Sachit's nuptials were planned in a unique order - it started with the haldi and mehendi in Mumbai, followed by the pheras in Pune and concluded with a sangeet in Thailand.
From multiple locations to myriad moods, Sonam and Sachit’s memorable wedding celebrations saw guests whizzing between Pune, Mumbai and Thailand. The stunning environs of the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa in Thailand hosted the concluding functions meticulously planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Pink Palki. Here, bride Sonam shares all the details of the events and the diverse highlights at all these different locations.
How We Met
Sachit is based in Pune, and Sonam grew up in Dubai. Although they got acquainted with each other in an arranged marriage setup, they became good friends after meeting for the first time. Their relationship evolved into love over a year, and then, they knew they were meant to be. Sonam shares, “It all started a year ago with the search for the right partner. My parents started looking for a suitable match for me. I was in Pune around that time when my parents called me and asked to meet a boy over coffee. I decided to give it a shot. After all, it was only for a coffee! I met Sachit, and our conversation started on a very casual note. I felt quite comfortable in his presence. Before we knew it, we had spent over three hours talking about our interests as well as likes and dislikes at that first coffee meeting.”
The Proposal
“The proposal was a surprise planned by Sachit with a little help from our friends and my parents. Since I was based in Dubai, Sachit decided to pay me a surprise visit there. Unaware of his plans, I agreed to go with my friends to a yacht where we were supposed to be celebrating a friend’s birthday. Little did I know that Sachit was going to be there, ready to propose! Once I reached there, I saw him along with my friends waiting with balloons and champagne. He went down on one knee and popped the question. Of course, I said ‘Yes!’ It was all very romantic.”
Wedding Venues
The couple decided to have a traditional wedding ceremony at The Westin Pune and host their post-wedding celebrations at the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa in Thailand which offered outstanding Thai hospitality and delightful venues.
Wedding Functions
An intimate haldi and mehndi at Sonam’s grandmother’s house in Mumbai flagged off their extravagant celebrations. A traditional ‘mayra’ ceremony for the bride and her mother took place at the NSCI Palace Halls the next day, followed by a ring ceremony and engagement dinner where Sonam and Sachit were surrounded by their closest family and friends.
Wedding
Pink, white and green were the main colors for this special occasion held at The Westin hotel in Pune, and the decor theme was planned around this combination. The wedding mandap was resplendent with beautiful white drapes, magnificent white floral arrangements, green strands and crystal chandeliers that added a royal touch to the ambiance. Sonam shares, “The entire venue looked very dreamy. It was all Sachit’s idea to go with a decor theme like this one.”
Welcome Lunch – Thailand
After the wedding celebration in Pune, the couple and their loved ones traveled to Thailand and kicked off the post-wedding celebrations off with an elegant welcome lunch. For this casual event, the decor revolved around a travel theme. Guests were charmed by traditional Thai dancers dressed in traditional ensembles who warmly welcomed everyone to the event.
Sundowner Party
“We hosted an outdoor sundowner where the decor theme was pop art. We wanted the whole venue to be bright, so we tried to incorporate pops of color everywhere. The stage was set up with a backdrop screen, and the event was filled with performances by us, our friends and family members.”
Pool Party
After a good night’s sleep, guests woke up to another day of fun as a pool party awaited them. Everyone wore pastel ensembles with fancy hats and danced to some amazing music. Since this was a day event, the couple stuck to a pastel color palette of baby blue, peach and white so that the decor was easy on the eyes. The couple threw in some vibrant sun beds where the guests enjoyed poolside massages. The cabanas added a relaxing vibe to the pool party and were a calm contrast to the buzz at the bar counter. Everyone enjoyed getting their hands on the fun, summery props which were provided for people to pose with when taking photos.”
Sangeet
A grand stage with a deep color palette set the tone for the sangeet. Lightbulbs, heavy drapes, and an LED screen were some of the key elements of the decor for this event. The stage looked nothing less than those used at mega concerts. Sonam adds, “We all enjoyed the fabulous performances by loved ones which lightened up the mood and kept our guests entertained the entire evening.”

“Don’t leave things for the last minute and start planning your wedding details in advance. Enjoy every moment of the celebrations because before you know it, they will get over!”
