Amrita and Keshav, MGM Beach Resorts, Chennai
Blending a sea and temple-inspired mandap with nostalgia-inducing elements from the couple’s journey, this seaside wedding unfolded with simplicity, tradition and quiet warmth.
Amid the rhythmic lull of waves along the Bay of Bengal, Amrita and Keshav’s union was envisioned not merely as a celebration but as a deeply rooted homecoming, an ode to the city that shaped them, and a four-day narrative told through culture, music, and emotion. Thoughtfully conceptualised and executed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Oh Yes Events, the wedding brought together nostalgia and nuance, where every moment felt personal yet seamlessly grand.

Wedding Planning
For Oh Yes Events, this was more than a year-long planning journey; it was an exercise in storytelling. As Saravanan Saran from the team shares, “When Amrita and Keshav first met us, they didn’t bring references or trends. They brought stories of Chennai, of growing up, of things that felt like home. Our job was to build a wedding out of those memories.”
With guests arriving from across the globe, logistics were mapped down to the minute, airport pickups, room allocations, seamless transfers, all executed with an ease that masked the complexity beneath. Keshav reflects, “It looked effortless, but we knew effortless is just effort others don’t see.” That invisible orchestration allowed every guest to be fully present, immersed in celebration rather than logistics.
From the contemplative calm of the Viratham to the evocative nostalgia of the Mehendi, from the spirited Padayappa-inspired procession to the dreamlike Sangeet, and finally, the temple-inspired wedding by the sea, every moment was curated to reflect the couple’s journey. “They didn’t impose a style on us,” Amrita shares. “They understood ours and brought it to life.”
Saravanan adds, “This was a wedding that didn’t need to be loud to be felt. It invited people in quietly and that’s where its magic lay.”

Wedding Functions
Viratham
The celebrations began on a quiet, reflective note. As the resort slowly stirred awake, a close circle of family gathered for the Viratham, a sacred ritual marking the spiritual commencement of the wedding. The setting was intentionally minimal, allowing tradition to take precedence over spectacle. Soft chants and blessings filled the air as Amrita and Keshav sat surrounded by those who had witnessed their journeys. It was a moment untouched by embellishment, grounding, intimate, and deeply meaningful. “The Viratham was always meant to be our quiet beginning,” Keshav shares. “It reminded us of the gravity of what we were stepping into, before everything became celebratory.”

Mehndi
By afternoon, the mood shifted to one of warmth and nostalgia. Set on an island within the resort, the Mehendi unfolded as a heartfelt tribute to Chennai, designed by Oh Yes Events as an immersive, sensory experience rather than a conventional function. Every corner held a story. A Kili Josiyam setup, with a parrot astrologer reading fortunes, sparked curiosity and laughter, bridging cultures between local and international guests. Nearby, a nostalgic chocolate stall displayed childhood favourites from Tamil Nadu, instantly transporting guests back in time.
A traditional filter coffee stall became a hub of conversation, serving frothy brews in steel tumblers as the aroma mingled with the sea breeze. The goli soda counter added a playful charm, while mehndi artists worked amid a soundtrack of nostalgic Tamil melodies. The result was an atmosphere that felt lived-in and personal, an afternoon that didn’t just entertain but resonated.

Groom’s Procession
As dusk approached, the energy transformed. Keshav’s arrival was designed to feel authentic rather than extravagant, eschewing grand entries for a humble cycle rickshaw that reflected the spirit of Chennai. What began as a procession soon turned into a jubilant parade. A live band led the way, their music carried by the coastal breeze as guests danced along. Then came the defining moment, the unmistakable notes of Minsara Kanna filled the air, turning the walkway into a spontaneous stage. “When we discovered it was his favourite song, we knew it had to be experienced live,” shares Saravanan Saran. “Those are the moments that matter, the ones you don’t see coming.”
For Keshav, it was unforgettable. “In that moment, surrounded by everyone I love, walking toward Amrita, it felt surreal.”
Sangeet
The evening unfolded into something entirely unexpected. With complete creative freedom entrusted to the planning team, the Sangeet transformed the lawn into an ethereal, glowing garden. ‘Mirchi’ lights traced pathways in warm gold, lanterns floated overhead, and coconut trees shimmered under soft green uplighting. The space felt almost otherworldly, as though starlight had been woven into every detail.
“Trust is the greatest gift,” reflects Saravanan Saran. “They gave us a blank canvas, and we chose to create a dream they hadn’t yet imagined.” Amrita recalls the moment she entered, “I just stopped. The same lawn from the afternoon had transformed completely. It didn’t feel real.”

Wedding
Morning brought with it a sense of serenity as the beachfront lawn was reimagined into a temple-inspired setting. The mandap, conceptualised by Oh Yes Events, drew from South Indian temple architecture and Bharatanatyam aesthetics, its ivory drapery, brass accents, and traditional motifs exuding quiet grandeur.
Floral pillars, textured textiles, and suspended bells created an atmosphere of reverence, while the ocean formed a breathtaking backdrop. Along the shoreline, flowing fabric installations danced with the wind, an element both poetic and technically demanding. “Designing with the ocean is never simple,” shares Saravanan Saran. “We had to test everything, from materials to anchoring, because the wind doesn’t negotiate. But when it all came together, it felt magical.”
As rituals unfolded and vows were exchanged, the sea bore silent witness. “I remember looking at Keshav through the sacred fire,” says Amrita. “And beyond him, the sea. Endless, constant. It felt like everything was aligning in that moment.”
